Terms of use

Health disclaimer

The figures on this site are educational estimates. They are not medical advice, dietary advice or a diagnosis.

  • Teaspoon figures are calculated from average glycaemic index values measured in small groups of people. Your own blood glucose response to the same food can be different.
  • The calculator treats each food as if eaten on its own. Real meals, cooking methods, ripeness, brands and portion sizes change the result.
  • Nothing on this site should be used to diagnose, treat or manage any medical condition. Talk to a qualified healthcare provider, such as a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or registered dietitian, about your health and your diet.
  • If you have diabetes or prediabetes, or take any medication that affects blood glucose, do not change your medication or your diet based on this tool. Changes to carbohydrate intake can change how much medication a person needs, and some glucose-lowering medicines can cause dangerously low blood glucose if diet changes without medical supervision. Speak to the clinician who manages your care first.
  • If you think you may be having a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services.

Using the site

By using carbsaresugar.com you agree to these terms. The site is provided free of charge for personal, educational and informational use. You may link to any page and share calculator links freely.

You agree not to use the site in a way that disrupts it for others, for example by automated scraping at a volume that affects its availability, or by attempting to interfere with its hosting.

Accuracy

The food values are taken from published sources listed on the sources page, and care is taken to reproduce them accurately. Errors are still possible, both in the sources and in this site's transcription of them. The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss or harm arising from use of, or reliance on, the site or its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Content and attribution

The teaspoon-of-sugar method and most food values are the work of Dr David Unwin, Dr David Haslam and Dr Geoffrey Livesey, and the infographics they come from are distributed by the Public Health Collaboration. Full attribution and the licence position are on the sources page. The site's own text, design and code belong to its operator. This site is independent and is not endorsed by any of the people or organisations whose work it cites.

Advertising and external links

The site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are not endorsements. Links to external sites are provided for reference, and this site is not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Privacy

How the site handles data is described in the privacy policy.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
